This is a presidential proclamation (Proclamation 10941, signed May 16, 2025) that formally designates Armed Forces Day as an annual observance. It directs the public, state and territorial governors, and American citizens to recognize and honor currently serving military members on that date.
The proclamation formally sets Armed Forces Day on the third Saturday of each May, continuing a longstanding tradition. It supersedes and replaces the prior year’s Armed Forces Day proclamation (Proclamation 10762 of May 17, 2024). Governors of states, territories, and U.S. jurisdictions are invited to organize local observances. Citizens are called upon to fly the U.S. flag at homes and businesses on that day and to attend local events. No new laws, funding, or federal programs are created by this document.
Active duty, National Guard, and Reserve members of all six branches — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force — are the honorees of the observance. State and territorial governors are addressed directly as organizers of local recognition events. The general public is encouraged to participate through flag display and attendance at community observances.
