This is Executive Order 14202, signed February 6, 2025, and published in the Federal Register on February 12, 2025. It is a presidential directive that creates a government task force to identify and end what the order calls anti-Christian bias within the federal government. It directs executive agencies to review past conduct and recommend changes, but does not itself change any existing law.
The order establishes a new “Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias” inside the Department of Justice, chaired by the Attorney General and including 16 named officials (such as the Secretaries of State, Defense, HHS, Education, and Homeland Security, the FBI Director, and the EEOC Chair), plus any others the chair invites. The task force is directed to review the previous administration’s agency activities, identify policies or conduct it considers unlawfully anti-Christian, and recommend to agency heads or the President how to revoke them and take remedial action. It must deliver an initial report within 120 days, a summary report within 1 year, and a final report when it dissolves. Agency heads are required, to the extent permitted by law, to hand over information the task force requests, and the DOJ supplies its funding and support. The task force automatically ends 2 years from the order’s date unless the President extends it.
The federal agencies named in the order (including State, DOJ, FBI, Labor, HHS, Education, DHS, and the EEOC) are directly affected, because their past policies and practices are subject to review and their leaders must supply requested information. Christians, faith-based organizations, pro-life groups, and churches are the populations the order describes as having been targeted and aims to protect, and it says the task force will also seek input from affected individuals and state, local, and Tribal governments. The order states it creates no new legal rights or benefits that anyone can enforce in court.
