This is Executive Order 14205, signed February 7, 2025, which creates a new office inside the Executive Office of the President called the White House Faith Office. It directs the federal government to help faith-based groups, community organizations, and houses of worship compete for federal grants, contracts, and funding, and to enforce religious-liberty protections. It also renames and amends several older executive orders that governed earlier faith-based initiatives.
The order sets up the White House Faith Office within the Domestic Policy Council, led by a Senior Advisor, giving it lead responsibility for the government’s faith-based partnership efforts. It renames the former “White House Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives” to the “White House Faith Office” and the agency “Centers for Faith-based and Community Initiatives” to “Centers for Faith” across five prior executive orders (13198, 13279, 13280, 13342, and 13397), and strikes one subsection (2(h)) of Executive Order 13279. The new office is assigned specific tasks, including consulting faith and community leaders, recommending policy changes to the President, running training to help faith groups apply for grants, and working with the Attorney General on religious-liberty concerns. Agencies that do not already have a Center for Faith must designate or appoint a “Faith Liaison” within 90 days of the order. The order states it creates no new legal rights and is subject to available funding.
Faith-based entities, community organizations, and houses of worship are the intended beneficiaries, as the office is meant to help them access federal funding and partnership opportunities. Federal departments and agencies are affected because they must support the office, and any agency without a Center for Faith must appoint a Faith Liaison within 90 days. The order does not grant enforceable rights or benefits to any private party or organization against the government.
