This is a presidential proclamation (Proclamation 11037, signed June 12, 2026) issued by President Donald J. Trump declaring June 14, 2026 as Flag Day and the week beginning June 14, 2026 as National Flag Week. It fulfills a standing congressional requirement — established by joint resolutions in 1949 and 1966 — that the President issue such a proclamation each year.
Federal government buildings are directed to display the U.S. flag throughout National Flag Week (June 14–20, 2026). All Americans are urged, though not legally required, to display the flag during that week. The proclamation also encourages public observance — gatherings, activities, and recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance — from Flag Day through Independence Day, a period Congress has already set aside for that purpose. The document references a previously signed Executive Order (not part of this proclamation) concerning penalties for flag desecration tied to violence, and a separate policy authorizing visa or residency revocation for foreign nationals who desecrate the flag, but neither of those actions is created or modified by this proclamation itself.
Federal agencies and the officials responsible for government buildings are directly directed to fly the flag during the designated week. All U.S. residents and citizens are encouraged — on a voluntary basis — to display the flag and participate in public commemorative activities between June 14 and July 4, 2026.
