This is an executive order signed by President Trump on June 16, 2025, putting into effect the tariff and trade terms announced in the US-UK Economic Prosperity Deal agreed upon May 8, 2025. It uses presidential trade authorities — including the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act — to immediately adjust tariff rates on specific UK goods entering the United States.
Up to 100,000 UK-made automobiles per year may now enter the US at a combined 10% tariff rate (2.5% base plus 7.5% additional), instead of the 25% tariff that otherwise applies; cars above that annual quota still face the full 25% rate. UK-made automotive parts destined for use in UK-made vehicles are also reduced to a 10% total tariff, down from 25%. Aerospace products covered by the WTO Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft that originate in the UK are now exempt from the reciprocal and steel/aluminum tariffs entirely, effective when the Commerce Department publishes the corresponding notice (within 7 days of this order). Steel and aluminum quotas at favorable rates are authorized but not yet set — the Secretary of Commerce is directed to establish them at a future time, contingent on the UK meeting supply-chain security requirements. The 2025 vehicle quota is prorated to reflect the May 8 start date of the deal.
UK automakers (such as Jaguar Land Rover) and their US importers gain meaningful tariff relief on up to 100,000 vehicles annually, making those vehicles cheaper to bring into the US market. UK and US aerospace manufacturers trading in civil aircraft parts gain immediate tariff-free access in both directions. US and UK steel and aluminum producers are affected indirectly, but their specific quota terms remain pending a future Commerce Department decision.
